How Does Clay Drainage Work?

How Does Clay Drainage Work?

Clay drainage systems have been known as an effective method for water management for many years now. These systems typically consist of pipes made from fired clay laid beneath the ground to facilitate water movement. Clay drainage pipes are generally cylindrical and come in various sizes. At Rouden Pipetek, we supply a wide range of clay pipes, in diameters DN100, 150, 225 and 300mm. They are joined together using specialised fittings and are sealed to prevent leaks.

The Functionality Of Clay Pipes

When excess water accumulates on the surface, clay pipes help to drain it away to below ground level. As water flows into the pipes, it is directed away from buildings, roads and other structures in order to prevent flooding and waterlogging. Vitrified clay pipes and fittings are tough and do not distort under heavy loads. This strength ensures resilience even under extreme pressures. Our clay pipes are also corrosion resistant and can accommodate controlled discharges of up to 60-70 degrees.

Durability & Longevity

Clay pipes are renowned for their durability and longevity. When properly installed and maintained, they can withstand the test of time. The durability of fired clay and its resistance to corrosion and chemical degradation make it ideal for underground drainage applications. Moreover, clay pipes are environmentally friendly as they are made from natural clay deposits and do not pose any significant environmental risks. We at Rouden Pipetek manufacture clay pipes using high impact polypropylene with elastomeric seals, providing watertight and flexible mechanical joint assemblies, complying with BS EN295-1: System G.
