How Do MDPE Water Pipes Work?

How Do MDPE Water Pipes Work?

What Are MDPE Pipes?

Medium-density polyethylene, or MDPE pipes, also called “black and blue” pipes, are made specifically to withstand the demanding conditions of underground life. These pipes connect the main water supplies into dwellings and are often built in underground trenches. They are made of strong, heavy-duty material. After installation, a large gear is used to fill the channels.

However, installing these pipes presents several difficulties. Trenches are muddy, making it simple for contaminants to enter the fitting. When the weather is bad, visibility can also be low, making it challenging to tell if you’ve formed a safe, watertight seal, especially when utilising fittings with compression connections. Over time, compression fittings can also come loose, which leads to leaks that are challenging to fix. Push-fit pipes have many advantages and can result in an easier and more effective installation.

How Do They Work?

Push-fit MDPE fittings considerably decrease the dangers mentioned above. Pushing the pipe into these fittings creates a connection because they already have a seal. This reduces the possibility of contaminating the pipework’s interior. Even in adverse weather, the stainless-steel teeth firmly hold the MDPE pipe to form the most trustworthy of seals. The fittings can also be completely disassembled without the use of specialised tools. As a result, they can move through small, tricky locations with poor visibility quickly and easily.

The MDPE push-fit fittings also eliminate any problems with compression fittings. For instance, three compression nuts, three seals and three compressive parts must be fitted onto the pipe to connect a compression tee. Concatenating these parts in muddy ditches can be difficult, but push-fit technology makes these tasks simpler and quicker.

The push-fit MDPE range offers every connector needed for the work, including stop taps, stop ends, reducing tees and more. It is available in all popular pipe sizes of 20mm, 25mm and 32mm.
